From teaching photojournalism reporting at IU Southeast to having worked at various newspapers, Moss has dedicated his life to taking pictures. Friends of student battling leukemia host benefit

A benefit is being held for 21-year-old Ashley Whitlow, elementary education junior, who is currently fighting leukemia for the second time. The benefit will be held on Saturday, April 10, from 7 p.m. to midnight at Kye’s II in Jeffersonville.

Family brings harmony to the Ogle Center

As the audience spilled into the Ogle Center on Feb. 13, the lights were dim. The walls on stage were pale blue as five Steinway Grand Pianos sat pressed together and illuminated on stage.

Event raises money for Haitian relief efforts

In an effort to send help to Haiti, an event was put together by Brigette Le Normand, assistant professor of history, and Charles Pooser, assistant professor of French and international studies, in hopes of bringing IU Southeast together and show support for Haiti. On Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. a group of students, faculty and staff gathered in University Center, room 127, for an event that was dubbed “Haitian Night.” Pooser said he wanted to do something on campus to spotlight what is going on in Haiti.

Dorm room floods

A broken water supply line dumped water into a dorm, causing damages. This happened in Forest Lodge on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 30. “Several hundred gallons of water were lost,” Jim Wolfe, director of Physical Plant, said. Wolfe said the water leaked from the supply line in the ceiling of Forest Lodge, room 102, with water soaking the carpet, furniture and resident’s belongings.

Feb. 7 at 3:12 p.m. IUS Police investigated a smoke alarm in Forest Lodge that went off in an empty dorm room. No bacon was harmed in this incident.

Strong second half propels IUS past Brescia

On Wednesday, Feb. 3, the No. 4-ranked IUS men’s basketball team defeated visiting Brescia University 91-63. The Grenadiers started slow, trailing the Brescia Bearcats for most of the first half. Then, with only three minutes left in the half, the Grenadiers took their first lead of the game at 30-29 and never looked back. The Grenadiers led 41-34 at the half.

Women’s assistant coach in 18th season on sideline

In 1992, Bernie Merkel, women’s basketball assistant coach, an IUS alumnus and former IUS basketball player, had been laid off from his employer. He was looking for a job to keep him busy and make some extra money while looking for his next career opportunity. Merkel returned to his former coach at IU Southeast, Jim Morris, to see if there were any openings at the school.
