Upcoming elections draw in youth voters

Predictions for the 2010 Election Day include a shift of power in the House and Senate from Democrat to Republican and an increase in youth voting for both parties. Youth voting, which consists of people ages 18 to 29, has significantly increased recently when more than 50 percent of youth voters turned out for the presidential election in 2008. This was the second highest turnout for youth voters under the age of 30 since 1972 according to the Pew Research Center’s 2008 article, “Young Voters in the 2008 Election,” by Scott Keeter.

Professionals critique résumés for students

Local professionals critiqued students’ résumés for free during the semi-annual Café Résumé event hosted by the Office of Career Services. The critiques were offered at two times — during lunch and in the evening — at a booth in front of the University Grounds Coffee Shop. “Twice a year, we invite employers and HR professionals here,” Jim Kanning, director of Career Services, said. “These are people who see résumés all the time, and know what they are looking for.”

Journalist talks about Taliban imprisonment

Dyk spoke about his ordeal with the Taliban to more than 40 IUS students and faculty in the Hoosier Room West on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Grenadiers fall, Eagles soar

The IUS Women’s Tennis Team was defeated by the University of Southern Indiana by a score of 5-4 on Saturday, Sept. 11. IU Southeast went up against USI in three doubles games and six singles games. The Grenadiers started strong by winning two out of three doubles games but were not able to win the three singles games needed to win the match.

For tennis player Abby Enteman, accounting and finance senior, being awarded one of Daktronics-NAIA Women’s Tennis Scholars of 2010 let her know which group she was in. “I do work hard to keep up with everything,” Enteman said.
