Professor new to school, Southern Indiana area

Rhonda Wrzenski, assistant professor of political science, is new to IU Southeast. She became an IUS faculty member in the fall. Wrzenski is formerly from Wolbach, Neb. “Wolbach has a population of about 300 people,” Wrzenski said. “It is a close-knit community that really supports the educational process, as well as the extra-curricular activities.” Wrzenski has one sister, Arlene, who is 5 years older. Arlene chose to stay home in Nebraska to manage the family farm.

Passion drives softball coach

Todd Buckingham, IUS Softball head coach, is now heading into his fifth season with the Grenadiers. Before coaching at IU Southeast, Buckingham coached for five years at Bluefield State College in Bluefield, W. Va. Aside from coaching softball at Bluefield State College, Buckingham also coached women’s tennis, as well as being an assistant coach for the women’s and men’s basketball teams for one year.

Mexican immigrant keeps grades up while working

Jonathan Salazar, international business and marketing sophomore, moved to America after living in Merida, Yucatán, in the country of Mexico since he was 9 years old. Salazar said it was a major change moving to America and how he faced many difficulties. “I came here knowing three things in English—yes, no and how to count one to 10,” Salazar said. “I only knew ‘no’ because it’s the same in both languages.”
