The NFL and NCAA are currently discussing the possibility that players who are found to have received improper benefits from agents during their college careers could face suspensions and fines upon entering the NFL Draft. The talks come just weeks after a controversial Sports Illustrated article chronicling the 20-year career of agent Josh Luchs, who claims to have paid more than 30 former college football players in the 1990s.

Reptiles swarm on to campus

Snakes, lizards and other reptiles crawled into the Hoosier Room at IU Southeast during “Herps Alive!” The program educated children in the Kentuckiana area by raising awareness of reptiles and amphibians. Using money from the student activity fee, Herps Alive is an annual event on campus organized by the Children’s Hour — a series of programs at IU Southeast for children.

Lindsay is the founder and executive director of CO-STAR, the Coalition for Student and Academic Rights. CO-STAR is a national, non-profit student rights organization that assists college students dealing with legal problems.

Seminar connects social networking, career opportunities

Students gathered in University Center, room 122, to learn how to use social networking and make connections for careers. Jim Kanning and Lynn Prinz, directors of Career Services, presented “Digital Social Networking.” The seminar was sponsored by the Veteran’s Program, Career Services and the Intern to Earn program. Intern to Earn is a new intern program for the greater Louisville area that provides intern opportunities to keep interns working and learning in the community.

Contractor hits gas line; leak quickly repaired

The New Albany Fire Department was called to IU Southeast because a gas line was hit behind the Koetter Softball Sports Complex. On Oct. 20, a subcontractor working for Insight Communications was running fibers on the telephone poles and drilling an anchor for each pole where the lines were placed. Around 5:30 p.m., the anchors were being drilled 5 feet in the ground when a subcontractor realized they hit a 2-inch gas line.

Student values family more after niece accidently shot

A gunshot wound to the head of a 5-year-old girl is something many would consider to be a nightmare. For Evan Gaubatz, communication and advertising senior, that nightmare became a reality when her niece, Azaria Gaubatz, was shot in the head with a .22 caliber revolver at the hands of a 7-year-old boy.
