Grenadiers fall to Eagles, move to 1-4

The IUS Volleyball team lost its home-opener to Asbury College on Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the Activities Building. The Grenadiers fell to the Eagles 25-18 in the first game. The Grenadiers rallied and won the second game 25-20, only to lose the next two games, 25-20 and 25-21 and the match.

Women’s Tennis earns preseason No. 1 ranking

The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s preseason coaches’ polls were announced for fall sports, and the IUS women’s tennis team was chosen as the preseason No. 1 team. The preseason ranking came as no surprise to the IUS athletic staff, coaches and players. “Since we won conference last year, we seemed like the natural choice,” Jenni Walters, women’s tennis head coach, said.

Local church hosts IUS Choirs’ spring choral concert

The IUS Concert Choir and Community Chorus held their spring choral concert on Sunday, April 11 at 3 p.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church in New Albany. This was the first time the choir had sung at a different venue besides the Stem Concert Hall in the Ogle Center at IU Southeast.

Officials enforce seat belt use, cite text messaging while driving

A vehicle in the Meadow Lodge Parking Lot was stopped by IUS Police on March 10 and was given a warning for not properly using a seat belt and using a cell phone while operating a vehicle. Indiana and Kentucky state law enforcement officers are cracking down on drivers violating the rules of the road.

Bullying cited on campus

Junior faculty on campus have seen a rise and have become more concerned with student’s behavior toward instructors and professors. More specifically, younger, female faculty members are feeling as though they are being bullied by students through disrespect, physical intimidation and inappropriate sexual comments.

Senior tennis player excels for Grenadiers

Softball team holds on to defeat Grace College

The IUS softball team defeated Grace College 5-3 on March 6, at the Koetter Sports Softball Complex. IU Southeast hosted the Grenadier Classic, and the win improved their record to 4-5 on the season and advanced them to the championship game.

Men’s basketball team puts Eutectics away early

The IUS men’s basketball team defeated the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in the first round of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament 88-35 on Feb. 23, in the Activities Building, improving their record to 23-4 on the season.

Snow cancels, delays school again

IU Southeast was closed Monday, Feb. 15, followed by a two-hour delay on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The closings caused another round of event cancellations, including the Christian Student Fellowship’s free lunch and the Appreciation Luncheon hosted by the Multicultural Student Union.

Friends of student battling leukemia host benefit

A benefit is being held for 21-year-old Ashley Whitlow, elementary education junior, who is currently fighting leukemia for the second time. The benefit will be held on Saturday, April 10, from 7 p.m. to midnight at Kye’s II in Jeffersonville.

Sociology professor uses interesting teaching methods

Sam Sloss, professor of sociology, is known for his unique teaching methods and techniques. For more than 20 years, Sloss has taught many different classes for the Department of Sociology, and he is known for teaching classes that other professors don’t usually teach. Classes Sloss has taught range from discussing Religion and Society, Games, Leisure and Play, Sociology of Humor and, this semester, he is teaching Food and Society and Issues in Evolution.
