The Grenadiers hosted the Campbellsville Tigers on Oct. 11. The game was close during all five sets. When the Tigers and Grenadiers met at the beginning of the season, IU Southeast fell to Campbellsville in fair sets. The Grenadiers previously played the Tigers on Aug. 28, where they were defeated 25-16, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19. Going into the rematch, Sara Schum, sophomore middle blocker, said the team was more prepared to face off against the Tigers.

No qualms about spandex, volleyball player serves up attitude

Most Tuesday and Thursday nights, Jade Troutman, secondary education junior, can be found sporting a red and white jersey, black spandex shorts and a couple of knee pads along with the rest of the IUS volleyball team. Standing at 5 feet 8 inches and bearing the number 22 on her back, Troutman plays the position of middle blocker. Troutman said she first decided she wanted to play volleyball when she was in elementary school. “I was just going to play every sport and see which one I liked best,” Troutman said.

Grenadiers shut out Spalding

IU Southeast came off their two game losing streak with a hard fought victory over Spalding University, Sept. 27 in the Activities Building. The Grenadiers battled to hold their lead throughout each set and eventually came away victorious, winning in three sets; 27-25, 25-22, 27-25. The Grenadiers dominated the game with kills, spikes and blocks. Coral Maybrier, freshman outside hitter, and Jade Troutman, junior middle blocker, completed the night with a combined 29 of the Grenadiers’ 47 kills — Troutman with 15 and Maybrier with 14. Every member of the team ended the night with at least three spikes apiece. Meaghen Tompkins, sophomore setter, had a match-high with 33 assists for the Grenadiers.

Grenadiers fall to Lindsey Wilson despite effort

Lindsey Wilson College continued its seven-game winning streak with its win against IU Southeast Sept. 20 in the Activities Building. The Grenadiers kept it close but lost in four sets, 3-1, to the Blue Raiders. This loss ended the team’s two-game winning streak. “I am very, very, very proud of my team tonight,” Lesley Drury-Prather, IUS volleyball head coach, said. “This is the first time that they have showed heart and fight and fire, which we have been preaching all year, and so it’s really great to see it.”

Grenadiers power over Patriots

IU Southeast ,3-2, faced off against the Patriots of St. Catharine, 4-1, Aug. 21 in the Activities Building. The newly renovated crimson bleachers contained a fairly large crowd of St. Catharine and IUS fans for the first home game of the Lady Grenadiers season. During the summer session, the Athletics Department updated the bleachers in the gym to accommodate for a safer environment for the Grenadier fans.
