Men’s tennis cruises past Asbury

The IUS men’s tennis team defeated visiting Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Asbury College 7-2 on April 1. The Grenadiers faced off against Asbury University in three doubles matches and six singles matches. The Grenadiers won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches.

Pitcher battles injury bug during final season

Most athletes start their senior season with high expectations and hopes of ending their playing career as a winner and going out on top. Kris Eschman, senior pitcher, has been the model of consistency for the pitching rotation during his previous three seasons. Eschman was at the top of total innings pitched during his junior season and lead the Grenadiers with 47 strikeouts for the year.

Softball team holds on to defeat Grace College

The IUS softball team defeated Grace College 5-3 on March 6, at the Koetter Sports Softball Complex. IU Southeast hosted the Grenadier Classic, and the win improved their record to 4-5 on the season and advanced them to the championship game.

Tennis coach takes pride in consistency

Consistency is a significant word to IUS men’s tennis coach, Yancey Walters. He said it’s what makes him unique from coaches of other campuses. “I show up consistently,” Walters said. “A lot of people wouldn’t think much of it, but it’s a big deal to me. I make sure that I’m here to interact and work with my team. I also have to pay attention to my team’s grades and their outside behavior to make sure they are able to maintain a spot on the team.”

Senior shortstop looks to make a difference following softball

For Shana Andres, sociology senior and shortstop, softball has been important throughout her life. Andres currently plays shortstop for the IUS softball team. However, she has been playing the sport since she was a young girl.

Basketball team wins championship

The IUS men’s basketball team, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, defeated the No. 2 seed, the Brescia University Bearcats, 78-71 to win their third-straight Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, Feb. 27, in Frankfort, Ky.
