The IUS men’s basketball team defeated Ivy Tech Indianapolis on Nov. 7, in the third annual Joe B. and Denny Classic.
The Grenadiers won 111-68 in the exhibition game. The game does not count toward IU Southeast’s record because Ivy Tech is a two-year school.
The Grenadiers were led by Jazzmarr Ferguson, junior guard, with 17 points and two assists. George White, senior guard, scored 14 points and had four rebounds. Craig Bryant, senior guard, scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds.
DeJon Gary, senior guard, led IU Southeast with nine rebounds.
Many IUS players were happy about the game.
“We played as a team,” Brandon Anderson, junior guard, said. “We’ve got to keep it going.”
Leading scorers for Ivy Tech were David Lane, guard, with 22 points and Jamaal Pittman, center, who scored 17 points.
Greg Leigh, Ivy Tech head coach, said he was happy with his team.
“I liked the effort our players gave today,” Leigh said. “It was a tough game. We played hard and gave it our best.”
The game was hotly competitive starting out, but IU Southeast eventually took the game over, leading by 24 at the half, 62-38.
Ivy Tech had 20 turnovers and six steals. IU Southeast only had 11 turnovers and 14 steals.
Alvin Thomas, IUS assistant coach, said their defense could improve.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day,” Thomas said.
The Grenadiers will play Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m., at Robert Morris College in Illinois. They return home on Dec. 1, to take on St. Catharine College.
