The IUS volleyball team faced off against Brescia University on Tuesday, Nov. 1 for the team’s senior day. This would be the last time that seniors Katie Fischer, Hannah Barker, and Mary Dye played in front of the home crowd for IU Southeast.

This would also be the last conference game of the season before the conference tournament.

The Grenadiers were able to take the match 3-1, making their conference record 12-4 for the season.

The Grenadiers were led by sophomore Hannah Joly with 16 kills and sophomore Monica Loftus adding 10. The team was led by senior Hannah Barker with 39 assists for the night. The team was able to produce seven blocks.

The Grenadiers would lose the first set of the night and go down 0-1 for the match. Head coach Eric Brian said that he was not worried.

“We just have not played that well at home this year.” Brian said. “It comes down to realizing the situation sometimes.”

Team captain Katie Fischer said she has seen the team come out a little shaky this year before.

“I think we come out expecting to win,” Fischer said. “We feel like we do not need to put in any extra effort and we don’t get excited but we finally found it.”

The Grenadiers were able to win three straight to take the match. A win tonight seemed more important than ever for the seniors.

“It was very important for us to go out and get the win tonight.” Barker said.

With one game left in the season, the Grenadiers are facing a tough opponent on the road. Coach Brian said he is ready for the challenge.

“This game is going to be a really good opportunity for us to be tested on the road.” Brian said. “This will be a good test for us before the conference tournament.

Even though this was her first and her only year, Mary Dye said she has had a great time.

“This was the most fun I have ever had playing for a team.” Dye said. “I am going to miss it so much.”

The Grenadiers were able to close out their conference season with a record of 12-4. This is one of the best records that the school has had.

“This is probably the best team I have had playing for IU Southeast.” Barker said. “This is the best record I have had with them.”

The Grenadiers are looking to have a great showing in the conference tournament said Brian. This is the best shot the team has had at winning the tournament.

“We all know we have the opportunity to win it.” Brian said. “I think the confidence is there, it is just a matter of the want being there as well.”

The Grenadiers are set to face off against Campbellsville on the road on Monday, Nov. 7 on the road. This will be their last game of the regular season and then the team will be competing in the conference tournament.
